This is my first book by Mysti Parker but not my last. This was a really emotional story of second chances at love and the struggles that couples are face back in that time period. Portia McAllister is far to young to have lost a husband and a child. Portia is falling in to despair and decides to take a job for a live-in tutor in another town. Portia find that the house hold has some harsh feeling for her at first due to her being a Confederate widow in a Union household. Beau Stanford is a war veteran and is struggling to keep the farm going. But a offer from his late wife cousin for her dowry in marriage also comes into play for their story. This starts their story of struggle and all they did to overcome so many problems.
